Guest Policies

Your hosts at The Willis-James strive to create a unique ambiance that makes your stay with us special. We have developed the following policies to help us provide consistent service, be a good neighbor, and to remain a viable business. We encourage you to review our policies prior to making your reservations so that we may avoid any surprises.


Check-in is from 4:00 - 6:00 pm and check-out is at 11:00 am. Late arrivals can be accommodated with prior notice, please contact Drew and Steph to make arrangements.


Access to the guest rooms and 1st floor common areas are for registered guests only.  


Well-behaved children ages 16 and over are welcome at The Willis-James. The guest rooms, however, have a maximum occupancy of 2 guests, and we do not allow or provide air-mattresses or cots. Minors are not permitted to stay in their own room, and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while on the premises. Whole-house bookings do not exempt any guest or visitor from this policy.


Pets are not permitted at The Willis-James. We’ll be happy to recommend our favorite local boarding kennels. Please be aware that we do own a dog, Dante. He is not allowed into the guest rooms, but is present in the 1st floor common areas. 


The Willis-James is a smoke-free establishment. There is absolutely no smoking inside the house or guest rooms, and this includes vaping & e-cigarettes. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available, we only ask that you respect our beautiful property and pick up after yourself. Smoking in a designated non-smoking area is subject to a cleaning fee.


No candles, oil lamps, or any open flame devices are permitted in guest rooms at any time. Please use our provided cosmetic wiping cloths for makeup removal. Guests will be held responsible and will be charged for repair or replacement or damages or losses to linens, towels, furniture, furnishings, or other items. Please do not remove any items from the property. If guests have been found to have stolen an item or items from property, we will seek monetary reimbursement and prosecute to the full extent of the law.  Please let us know if there is an accident in the room and something needs to be cleaned immediately so we can avoid permanent damage and related damage charges.


We want all of our guests to enjoy their stay at The Willis-James and experience a relaxing environment. Therefore, we do ask that you be mindful of other guests and our neighbors when you enter and leave the premises, and respect our quiet hours from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am.


We do provide a small, beverage cooler in the Butler's Pantry for guests who choose to bring in any drinks. We do not allow coolers to be stored inside the house. Please be mindful when consuming carryout food in any of the common spaces or guest rooms.  


The Willis-James is a 215-year-old historic building with a few low clearances. Four of our guest rooms are located on the 2nd floor and only accessible via stairs. Our home does not feature an elevator. Please watch your footing and your head as you use the stairs.


The Willis-James guest policies are subject to change occasionally to meet changes in the regulations, business needs, or to satisfy the needs of our guests, property, operational partners, and community.
